Professional Bodywork and Therapeutic Massage in Wausau, WI
Welcome to Gaia Massage & Yoga, LLC. I currently provide healing services in a private, quiet office at 301 E Kent St. in Wausau, WI. I am currently taking new clients and occasionally have a same day or week appointment available.. The years of experience attending to people in their bodies, minds and spirits shines through with the work I do. I look forward to guiding you towards better holistic health. We will work together so that you may inhabit your body authentically, with ease, comfort and self-love.
COVID-19 UPDATE: Yes, my business has been open during the pandemic and taking new clients on continuously. Please do not book appointments if you or someone in your household are or have recently been sick with fever, diarrhea, or other cold/flu symptoms. If you have an appointment scheduled and become sick, please cancel immediately to help prevent the spread of contagious diseases. I am not currently masking but you are welcome to wear a mask if that feels appropriate to you. I am happy to wear a mask if that makes you feel more comfortable as well.
I primarily work with clients who have chronic pain and tension patterns, digestive problems, TMJ, headaches and injuries. Massage Therapy and other Bodywork are Medical Treatments that may decrease pain, down-regulate your nervous system, improve digestion, encourage better sleep and aid in stress management. I share patients with local doctors, dentists, TMJ specialists, chiropractors, physical therapists and mental health counselors.
Finding balance in our lives is crucial to our overall health. I firmly believe that Self Care IS Health Care. We all need times of quiet and calm. Bodywork is a great way to receive healthy, non-sexual touch and give yourself a much needed break from daily stressors. Receiving touch therapies at Gaia Massage & Yoga, LLC in Wausau, WI can decrease mental and emotional stress and physical tension.
Most clients receive an integrative massage/bodywork. This is a therapeutic bodywork session that may combine several styles of therapeutic massage and bodywork: such as Myofascial Release, Swedish (relaxation) massage, Deep Tissue massage, the use of essential oils, Neuromuscular Therapy, Reflexology, Acupressure, Reiki and more. Depending on how the tissues are responding, additional tools may be used such as silicon/glass cups, stainless steel/stone/wood gua sha scrapers, hot stones, moist heat or ice. The goal of Integrative Massage is to melt away soft tissue tension and increase the blood, lymph and energy flow while down-regulating the nervous system. Integrative Massage is very therapeutic as it decreases muscle toxins and hypertonicity, increases oxygen levels in the blood, and improves flexibility in the body.
I have studied a variety of Western and Oriental techniques in my quest to understand the body and what it means to inhabit this human body. Check out the some of the styles I offer by clicking over my services page below.
Enjoy private or semi-private lessons to start or strengthen your personal practice. Learn how to down-regulate the nervous system and be more embodied. Sarah combines Hatha yoga poses, mat Pilates, reflexology, self-massage, meditation and more to teach others how to be more comfortable and move more efficiently in their body. Sarah has enjoyed a twenty-two year career in Holistic Massage Therapy. Working on thousands of clients, her diverse background and training shines through in each session. She has been practicing yoga since 1995 and teaching yoga since 2005. For many years she held an E-RYT 500 status through Yoga Alliance as well as Board Certification through NCBTMB. She has worked in a variety of medical and professional settings including previously contracting with the state of Montana as a Montana Medicaid Waiver Provider. She has managed and maintained a yoga studio, as well as her private practice for over 17 years.
Sarah loves spending time outdoors and understands the need to balance work and play. She believes the body works best when challenged with multiple styles of movement. This is why you'll see her on the hiking trails, biking, out in the kayak, hitting the slopes and more. Don't be surprised if you find her hugging trees!
She named her business Gaia Massage & Yoga, LLC because Gaia is the Greek name for Mother Earth and is pronounced "guy-a." In Spanish, Mother Earth is called Pancha Mama. There is a scientific theory that suggests the Earth is one being that self heals and regulates, similar to the organisms that inhabit it called the Gaia Theory. She is a nature girl through and through and she works to provide environmentally friendly services, goods and more to aid in the healing of our planet and our communities and our selves as individuals. Both the micro and the macrocosms are very important to her and fuel her passion as a healer and one who requires self-healing.
